The challenges
Pulsar Security delivers offensive security services and custom red team engagements for large organizations. As their client base grew, so did the complexity of their projects. This required constant upskilling to ensure their team could handle new attack vectors and environments.
The launch of their proprietary wireless security product, Sonar, added another layer of complexity. The team needed deeper expertise in wireless attacks to support both product development and client engagements.
At the same time, training across the organization lacked structure. Engineers were purchasing courses independently, which created gaps in consistency and made it difficult for leadership to track progress or measure effectiveness.
Pulsar needed a centralized, scalable approach to training that could support continuous development and provide full visibility into team progress.
"It’s incredible how real-world the course (PEN-300) is… we were able to get eight domain admins just from following the material alone."
The solutions
Pulsar Security partnered with OffSec to build a structured, continuous workforce development program that supports all skill levels.
Continuous workforce development with Learning Library
Pulsar implemented the OffSec Learning Library to provide ongoing access to courses, labs, and updated content. With new material added regularly, the team could keep pace with evolving threats and technologies.
Targeted upskilling with PEN-210 and PEN-300
To support specific needs, Pulsar enrolled team members in PEN-210 to build wireless attack expertise for their Sonar product.
They also leveraged PEN-300 to develop advanced red team capabilities, enabling consultants to perform complex engagements against mature organizations.
Hands-on practice with Proving Grounds
Pulsar used Proving Grounds Enterprise to simulate real-world environments and continuously sharpen skills. Teams practiced exploiting realistic systems and testing new techniques in scenarios that mirrored actual client engagements.
Structured learning across skill levels
Subscriptions like Learn Fundamentals and Learn One allowed Pulsar to support everyone from interns to senior consultants. Training could be completed on-demand, fitting around project workloads.
Full visibility with learning management system
OffSec’s LMS gave leadership clear insight into training progress, budget allocation, and skill development. This allowed Pulsar to track outcomes, assign training, and build structured development plans.
The benefits
The partnership delivered measurable impact across client work, team development, and business operations.
Direct impact on a $7B client engagement
Training from PEN-300 directly supported a red team engagement against a $7 billion company. The team followed course methodologies and successfully gained eight domain admin privileges, demonstrating real-world effectiveness.
Full transparency into training progress and spend
Leadership gained complete visibility into how team members were progressing and how the training budget was being used. This enabled better planning and accountability.
Personalized development plans for each team member
With structured tracking, Pulsar could create tailored development paths based on individual performance and career goals.
Improved onboarding and recruiting outcomes
Learn Fundamentals provided a clear entry point for interns and new hires, making onboarding more consistent and improving early skill development.
Stronger internal growth and leadership development
Advanced training helped transform red team members into red team leads, enabling Pulsar to promote talent from within and scale expertise across the organization.
Increased confidence in client engagements
The team gained confidence not only in technical execution but also in communicating with clients. This improved the overall quality of service delivery.
Why OffSec?
Pulsar chose OffSec for its hands-on training, continuous learning model, and real-world relevance. Courses like PEN-210 and PEN-300, combined with Proving Grounds and the Learning Library, gave the team a structured way to upskill, track progress, and directly apply skills in client engagements.
