What If Your Idea Became the Next OffSec Lab?
Learn all about OffSec’s new Creator Platform – create labs, earn rewards and help the security community skill up.
Every great lab starts with someone who knows what makes a security problem worth solving.
The OffSec User Generated Content Program gave cybersecurity practitioners the opportunity to turn that expertise into labs used by thousands of learners worldwide.
Now, with the new OffSec Creator Platform, it is even easier to find the right opportunity, submit your work, and follow it through the review process.
Creating an OffSec lab is an opportunity to teach through the kind of experience that shaped your own skills: investigating evidence, testing ideas, finding a way forward, and learning from what does not work.
Creators can contribute across a wide range of offensive and defensive disciplines:
- Offensive labs with realistic web, network, or cloud exploit paths
- Defensive labs covering digital forensics, malware analysis, incident response, and threat hunting
- Defensive Grimoires built around investigations using real telemetry
- Grouped or chained scenarios that connect several labs into a larger attack sequence
*Some topics may be paused when an excess of submissions are being reviewed.
The strongest submissions present a difficult challenge but also recreate credible security situations, teach clear lessons, and give learners practical experience they can carry into their work.
Your idea could become the lab that introduces someone to a new field, helps a practitioner improve an existing skill, or challenges an experienced learner to approach a problem differently.
Accepted submissions earn more than just recognition from the community.
Creators can receive rewards based on the quality, complexity, and scope of their work:
- Up to $1,500 for complete grouped or chained scenarios built around realistic penetration testing experiences
- Up to $500 for more advanced, multi-step labs with exceptional concepts and exploit chains
- Up to $300 for original, fully functioning labs that meet OffSec’s submission requirements
Consistent creators can unlock even more through the Tiered Author Rewards Program!
Reaching milestones of 5, 10, and 20 approved submissions can earn bounty boosts of 25%, 50%, and 100% on a future approved submission.
Exceptional quality, wishlist-aligned content, and connected lab chains can also help you progress toward these rewards faster.
We’re introducing the new Creator Wishlist that highlights the types of labs OffSec would like to add to the platform. You can explore current opportunities, find one suited to your expertise, and claim all ideas before you start building.
Claiming a wishlist opportunity helps prevent multiple creators from working on the same request and gives you greater confidence that your idea addresses a current content need.
Have an idea that’s not on the wishlist? If there is a technique, investigation, exploit path, or real-world scenario you believe learners should encounter, bring us your original idea!
Submitting your work should not feel like sending it into a black box.
The new Creator Platform also brings submission progress and approval tracking into one place. After uploading your lab, you can return to check its status and follow it through the review process.
OffSec will confirm receipt within 24 hours and aims to complete reviews within one week, although complex machines and chained scenarios may require additional time.
As you earn approvals, you can also progress through Creator Tiers. Each new tier increases how many submissions you can have in progress at once. Proven authors may be granted Trusted Creator status, unlocking the highest submission limits and reserved wishlist opportunities.
You already have knowledge worth sharing. The OffSec Creator Platform gives you a place to turn it into something other learners in the community can investigate, attack, defend, and remember.
Explore the wishlist for inspiration or start with an original scenario of your own. Build the experience you wish you had when developing your skills, then put it in front of a global community ready to take it on.
