OffSec Giving Program

On June 3, 2020, Offensive Security CEO Ning Wang issued this statement in response to the protests in the United States and around the world:

“It is disheartening to see what is happening in the US now with the death of George Floyd, and all the subsequent events that have followed. As a company, we want to make a statement on what we stand for, and most importantly stand against: discrimination in all forms e.g. on the basis of race, color, religion, sexual identity or national origin.

From the start of the company, there has been an informal program where we would make PWK vouchers available to those in need. With the events happening in the US and around the world, it has come time to formalize this OffSec Giving Program.

As part of this new program, we will be giving away ten PWK vouchers with 90 days of lab time every month starting in June and running for the rest of 2020.

Going forward, we will set a target each year to continue this program. The purpose is to help those in all parts of the world who are fighting for a cause we believe in, or are impacted by prejudice or bigotry.

This is an evolution, not an end point. We look forward to working with the community to understand what role we can take in future.”

The Giving Program and Our Commitment

As a follow up to our recent announcement regarding the OffSec Giving Program, whereby OffSec will donate PWK course vouchers monthly starting in June, we are thrilled to announce our collaboration with cybersecurity innovator and author Marcus Carey (@marcusjcarey).

Our commitments:

  1. We will select 5 minority individuals or supporting organizations designated by Marcus each month for the next 3 months.
  2. OffSec will provide 5 PWK vouchers to Marcus each month, and we are delighted that Marcus’s employer ReliaQuest will proudly match our donation so that Marcus can donate 10 PWK course vouchers for June, July, and August.
  3. OffSec will be donating an additional 5 PWK course vouchers on a monthly basis, directly to organizations selected by an internal team. This team will be deeply connected to multiple causes related to advancing the participation of minorities and underprivileged persons in cybersecurity.

In recognition of the worldwide protests spurred by the death of George Floyd, and the need to support greater access to technical training and opportunities to those from backgrounds underrepresented in cybersecurity, June’s vouchers will be dedicated to supporting the engagement of Black people in, or aspiring to join, the information security field.

Our overall goal with the OffSec Giving Program is to meaningfully impact the lives of minorities, women, and other underrepresented groups aspiring to work in the growing field of cybersecurity – and it starts with education. Education and skills are among the strongest forces that can change the vector of people’s lives and livelihoods, so this program represents the first of many real-world actions that OffSec will be taking to effect positive change in the world.
